My Three Icons

The three icons I have chosen are as follow: Holly Hobby, The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) and Andy Griffith. The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is one of the biggest and highest paid actors currently. In the passed month he has released three movies at the theater and won a belt on WWE.  Andy Griffith has been an icon for 60+ years; I do not think there is one person who has not herd of Andy Griffith and the town of Mayberry. Holly Hobbie is a character that started out on greeting cards and in the 1974 was made into a doll.

Holly Hobbie was a big part of child hood, my sister and I had all the dolls and carried them around with us for years and my sister still has the dolls.  My favorite doll was the Amy doll; she had red hair like me.  We shared a bedroom and our room was even decorated in Holly Hobbie, we had everything available at the time curtains, bedspreads, sheets, pictures on the walls, a record player and even our trash can was Holly Hobbie.  Recently I was at Hallmark looking for a birthday card from my sister and came across Holly Hobbie stickers, I bought them and gave them to my sister in her card, she loved them.  The name and image bring back so many good memories of my childhood.

I grew up watching reruns of The Andy Griffith show and dreamed of living in a place like that. Everyone was so friendly and Sheriff Taylor could talk anyone out of a bad situation and who could forget the bumbling Depute Fife. I think everyone who loves the show wanted to be a part of that type of community. I have now introduced my children to the show and they love it.  As soon as my son comes home from school he turns on Netflix and starts watching Andy Griffith, we have probably watch the whole series as least twice and watching it again.  I feel it is a good thing for my kids to see that life has not always been like it is now.  People lived without the Internet, TV, cell phones and video games.

A few years back my husband loved watching wrestling, I would suffer through three hours on Monday nights watching these men wrestle and listen to the drama pouring out of my TV.  The only thing that made it all worth it was seeing The Rock slam someone and walk away winning a belt, he hardly ever lost.  He is tall dark and handsome and has such charisma women love him and men want to be him. He can play a serious role and comedic roles and still looks good.

  1. Debbie, what great choices you have made! Until I saw your post about Holly Hobby I had completely forgotten her. Thank you for that post as it brought back fond memories for me also. Andy Griffith, he was great! I too watched the re-runs of that show and also followed him on Matlock. Hugh fan I am! He reminds me of my dad with his upstanding morals and quirky but loveable sense of humor. LOVE LOVE LOVE him!
The rock! Yea he's hot! :o) Sharon K, your classmate
